Finland Schengen Visa Application Requirements

Finland Visa Application Requirements

1. Completed visa application form. The embassy requires originals – no copies are accepted. For a visa application to be considered, the applicant must have completed and signed the application form. You can see the Schengen Visa Application Form here.

2. One (1) passport-sized, colour photograph. The photograph must conform to the following technical requirements: size of face (from chin to top of head) must measure 32 – 36 mm; size of photo: 36 x 47 mm; the face and shoulders must directly face the camera; the facial expression must be neutral.

3. Valid passport or other acceptable travel document. Passport or travel document must be valid for at least 3 months after the journey’s completion date. Passport needs to have been issued within the last 10 years and must have at least two blank visa pages. Please check here which travel documents are accepted by Finland.

4. Valid residence permit and re-entry permit. These must be valid for at least 3 months after the journey’s completion date.

5. Bureau of Immigration card.  This must be valid for at least 3 months after the journey’s completion date.

6. Proof of current address. This, for example, can be in the form of a utility bill (electricity, telephone, gas), bank statement, rent book, or rental agreement. Children should have a letter from school confirming their enrolment.

7. Travel insurance. This must cover the entire period of travel. Minimum coverage: 30,000 euro covering accident, sickness and repatriation. The insurance card/certificate and conditions of the insurance must be provided. The European Health Insurance Card does not meet the required criteria.

8. Proof of sufficient funds. Statement from a bank account covering the last 2 months – statements from more than one account can be presented – no more than 15 days old. If necessary, the statement can be supplemented with a mini statement from the ATM to meet this requirement. The statement(s) should bear the applicant’s name and address. When applicable, a copy of a credit card together with the most recent credit card statement must be provided.

9. Letter from employer. This should indicate date of hiring, position in the company, whether working full or part-time, yearly salary and the dates of planned holidays. If self-employed, tax registration, P21, P45 or P60 tax forms, or tax clearance must be provided.

10.  Pay slips for the last 2 months. These must include the names of the applicant and the company.

11. Letter from an institution of higher education. This must state the subject and level of studies, rate of attendance and the dates of the holiday and/or intended trip.

12. For business visits, an invitation letter from the company or business partner is required.

13. For visiting family or a friend, an invitation letter, a copy of passport data page and residence permit, if applicable, is required.

14. For tourism, a confirmed hotel reservation or an original invitation from a family friend in Finland is required.

15. For study, conference or professional training, an invitation letter and/or other applicable documents are required.

16. Proof of flight reservation is required. Original tickets must be shown when the visa is collected.
Note: The applicant assumes all risk regarding the purchase of tickets or travel related commitments/expenses made by the applicant before the visa has been granted.

17. Original marriage certificate and spouse’s original passport, if married to EU/EEA citizen. Written proof of address from applicant and spouse is also required.
Note: The application form must be signed (field No. 37 in the application form) by the EU/EEA national. For applicants under the age of 18, the written consent of the guardians, passports, Bureau of Immigration cards and the applicant’s birth certificate must be presented. Single parents must supply proof of sole guardianship. Only guardian(s) can sign the application form and at least one parent/guardian must be present when the visa application is made.

19. Original bank receipt of visa fee payment.

20. Prepaid self-addressed registered envelope, if passport will not be collected by applicant.
